The World Health Organization / International Agency for Research on Cancer recently escalated occupational exposure as a firefighter as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). A working group of 25 international experts evaluated the carcinogenicity of occupational exposure as a firefighter and found sufficient basis to change the classification from Group 2B (possible) to Group 1 (known).
